# The Meaning of Greek Words
## g720 (ἀρνέομαι)
### to deny
When someone says that they ἀρνέομαι something, they say that they do not think that thing is true.
When someone says that they ἀρνέομαι something, they say that they are not going to do it.
When someone says that they ἀρνέομαι someone, they do not believe in that person, that is, they reject that person.
When someone ἀρνέομαι themselves, they do not do they want to do. Instead, they do something for someone else.
## g1203 (δεσπότης)
### master
A δεσπότης is given permission to rule another person. A slave was ruled by a δεσπότης. This word does not mean the same thing as κύριος (g2962), but they are very similar.
## g1401 (δοῦλος)
### Slave- A slave is someone who is owned by another person. They are forced to serve that person.
### Servant- A servant is someone who serves another person. They are dedicated to one “master.” However, they are not forced to serve this master.
Someone who served another person because they needed to pay a debt, that is, they owed someone money. Sometimes translators write the word “bond-servant” when the author wanted to say this.
English does not have a word that means the same thing as the word “δοῦλος.” A master controls a δοῦλος in some way. However in Scripture, the authors do not say how a person is controlled by, depends on, or serves another person or God.
See: Christians are servants
## g2962 (κύριος)
### Someone who is given permission to rule
In ancient Israel, people did not want dishonor God by saying his name in the wrong way. Therefore, they said κύριος instead. This word does not mean the same thing as δεσπότης (g1203), but they are very similar.
## g4270 (προγράφω)
### to write before, that is, something that has previously been written
When God wrote about something before, it can mean that God has decided something a long time ago and that it declared that the thing will happen.
to proclaim or write so that people know something
## g4982 (σῴζω)
### to save
### to deliver from a harm or physical danger, to save from death
### to save from hell
When a person is saved from going to hell, they get to live together with God in heaven forever.
