# have you not read ... God, saying,
Jesus scolds the Sadducees by asking a question. He is not looking for an answer. Alternate translation: "I know you have read ... God. You know that he said," (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-rquestion]])

This is the end of the question that begins with the words "have you not read" in verse 31. Jesus asks this question to remind the religious leaders of what they know from scripture. "But concerning the resurrection of the dead, I know you have read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 'I am ....Jacob,' but you act as though you do not believe it." You can translate this direct quotation as an indirect quotation, changing verse 31 as necessary. Alternate translation: "... have you not read what was spoken to you by the God who said to Moses that he is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?" (See: [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-quotations]] and [[rc://en/ta/man/translate/figs-rquestion]])
