In the Bible, the word “blind” is used as a metaphor to talk about a person who is unable to understand the truth about God and the things God wants people to do (see: Isaiah 42:18-19; Matthew 15:14; 23:16-26; Romans 2:19; 2 Peter 1:9; 1 John 2:11; Revelation 3:17). Paul said that Satan “blinds” people (see: 2 Corinthians 4:4). If a person is blind in this way, only God can give them “light” or make the person “see.” That is, only God can cause a person to be able to understand the truth (see: Isaiah 29:18; 2 Corinthians 4:6).
