“Gossip” is people talking among themselves about another person who is not with them. When people gossip, they are talking about someone else in a negative way, and the things they are saying may not be true. A person who gossips is sometimes called “a gossip.”

The Bible teaches that it is wrong to gossip. When people gossip, it harms the person being talked about and it often causes people to fight with one another (see: Proverbs 16:28; 26:20; Romans 1:29; 2 Corinthians 12:20). The Bible says a Christian should only speak what is helpful to someone else (see: Ephesians 4:29).
