## They said to me ##

Here "they" refers to Hanani and the other people who had come from Judah.  (See [Nehemiah 1:1](./01.md)).

This is an area of land controlled by a king or greater ruler. AT: "Judah" or "the land of Judah"

## the captivity ##

This refers specifically to the Babylonian captivity.

## disgrace ##

"dishonor" or "humiliation from enemies"
