# Submit (Submission)
To "submit" means for someone to choose to obey another person or government even if they do not agree with it. They give them permission to rule them in some way. The Bible tells Christians that in the same way Jesus submitted to God the Father, Christians need to submit themselves to Jesus and God the Father (see: Ephesians 5:24; Hebrews 12:9; James 4:7; See also Proverbs 3:6). The Bible also says that Christians need to submit themselves to certain leaders (see: Romans 13:1, 5; Hebrews 13:17; 1 Peter 2:13, 18; 5:5). Christians are also told to submit to one another. They do this by obeying one another when they need to be corrected. They also do this by caring for others instead of themselves (see: 1 Corinthians 16:15-16; Ephesians 5:21, 22, 24; James 3:16-18).
