# Wise (Wisdom, Fool)

A person who is wise or has wisdom is someone who knows what is the right thing to do and then does that. People become wise by listening to God and obeying him (see: Proverbs 1:7; Ecclesiastes 2:26; James 1:5). A wise person will show the fruits of the Holy Spirit in his life (see: James 3:17). In the Bible, the word "worldly wisdom" is used to talk about what people in this world think is wise, but which is actually foolish (see: 1 Corinthians 3:19; James 3:13-18). A fool or foolish person is someone one who is not wise (Matthew 7:24, 26; Romans 1:14).

“Wisdom” is also a type of writing. The books of Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes are often called “Wisdom Literature.” They are called this because they are used to make people wise.
