# shame, shameful, ashamed # ## Definition: ## The term "shame" refers to a painful feeling of being disgraced a person has because of something dishonorable or improper that he or someone else has done. * Something that is "shameful" is "improper" or "dishonorable." * The term "ashamed" describes how a person feels when he has done something shameful. * The phrase "put to shame" means to defeat people or expose their sin so that they feel ashamed of themselves. * The prophet Isaiah said that those who make and worship idols will be put to shame. * God can bring shame to a person who does not repent by exposing that person's sin and causing him to be humiliated.
