# sandal, sandals # ## Definition: ## A sandal is a simple flat-soled shoe held onto the foot by straps that go around the foot or ankle. Sandals are worn by both men and women. * A sandal was sometimes used to confirm a legal transaction, such as the selling of property: one man would take off a sandal and give it to the other. * Removing one's shoes or sandals was also a sign of respect and reverence, especially in God's presence. * John said that he was not worthy to even untie Jesus' sandals, which would have been the task of a lowly servant or slave. ## Bible References: ## * [Acts 07:33-34](rc://en/tn/help/act/07/33) * [Deuteronomy 25:9-10](rc://en/tn/help/deu/25/09) * [John 01:26-28](rc://en/tn/help/jhn/01/26) * [Joshua 05:14-15](rc://en/tn/help/jos/05/14) * [Mark 06:7-9](rc://en/tn/help/mrk/06/07) ## Word Data: ## * Strong's: H5274, H5275, H8288, G4547, G5266
