Media was an ancient empire located east of Assyria and Babylonia, and north of Elam and Persia. Its territory covered parts of what are present-day Turkey, Iran, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

* The Medes were closely associated with the Persians and the two empires joined forces to conquer the Babylonian empire.
