# Benaiah
## Definition
Benaiah was a loyal officer of King David and King Solomon.
* When Solomon was being made king, Benaiah helped him overthrow his enemies.
* King Solomon ordered Benaiah to kill Adonijah who was plotting to take over the kingship.
* Benaiah was then ordered to kill commander Joab who had also been plotting against Solomon.
* Solomon appointed Benaiah to replace Joab as commander of the Israelite army.
* Benaiah became well-known as a courageous and mighty fighter.
* A few other men in the Old Testament are also named Benaiah, including a priest.
