# Carmel, Mount Carmel # ## Facts: ## "Mount Carmel" refers to a mountain range that was located along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea just north of the Plain of Sharon. Its highest peak is 546 meters high. * There was also a town called "Carmel" located in Judah, south of the Salt Sea. * The wealthy landowner Nabal and his wife Abigail lived near the town of Carmel where David and his men helped guard Nabal's sheep shearers. * On Mount Carmel, Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest in order to prove that Yahweh is the only true God. * To make it clear that this wasn't just a single mountain, "Mount Carmel" could be translated as, "mountain on the Carmel mountain range" or "Carmel mountain range."
