Allah Davud adlı gənc israillini seçdi və onu Şauldan sonra padşah olması üçün hazırladı. Davud Bet-Lexemli bir çoban idi. Davud atasının qoyun sürülərini otardığı zaman, sürüyə hücum edən aslan və ayını öldürməli olurdu. Davud həlim və saleh bir adam idi. O, Allaha sadiq idi və Ona itaət edirdi.
