# sea of reeds, Sea of Reeds, Red Sea ## Facts: The “Sea of Reeds” was the name of a body of water located between Egypt and Arabia. It is now called the “Red Sea.” * The Red Sea is long and narrow. It is larger than a lake or river, but much smaller than an ocean. * The Israelites had to cross the Red Sea when they were fleeing from Egypt. God performed a miracle and caused the waters of the sea to divide so that the people could walk across on dry land. * The land of Canaan was north of this sea. * This could also be translated as “Reed Sea.” (See also: [Arabia](../names/arabia.md)**.** [Canaan](../names/canaan.md), [Egypt](../names/egypt.md)) ## Bible References: * [Acts 07:35-37](rc://en/tn/help/act/07/35) * [Exodus 13:17-18](rc://en/tn/help/exo/13/17) * [Joshua 04:22-24](rc://en/tn/help/jos/04/22) * [Numbers 14:23-25](rc://en/tn/help/num/14/23) ## Examples from the Bible stories: * __[12:04](rc://en/tn/help/obs/12/04)__ When the Israelites saw the Egyptian army coming, they realized they were trapped between Pharaoh’s army and the __Red Sea__. * __[12:05](rc://en/tn/help/obs/12/05)__ Then God told Moses, “Tell the people to move toward the __Red Sea__.” * __[13:01](rc://en/tn/help/obs/13/01)__ After God led the Israelites through the __Red Sea__, he led them through the wilderness to a mountain called Sinai. ## Word Data: * Strong’s: H3220, H5488, G2063, G2281
