Apostrophe သည် ပြောသူ (Speaker) သည် သူ၏အာရုံစူးစိုက်မှုအား သူ၏ပြောစကား နားထောင်နေသူများ ထံမှပြောင်း၍ သူ့စကားအား မကြားနိုင်မသိနိုင်သော တစ်စုံတစ်ဉီး သို့မဟုတ် တစ်စုံတစ်ရာကို ပြောဆိုသောအခါမျိုးတွင် အသုံးပြုသည့်အမှတ်အသားတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည်။
ဤကဲ့သို့ပြုမူခြင်းအားဖြင့် ပြောသူ သည် နားထောင်နေသူများအား သူတိုင်တည်ပြောဆိုနေသည့် တစ်စုံတစ်ဉီး သို့မဟုတ် တစ်စုံတစ်ရာ အပေါ် သူမည်မျှ အလေးထားကြောင်း နှင့် ထိုအရာတို့အပေါ်တွင်သူ၏ ခံစားချက်မည်မျှပြင်းထန်သည်ကို ဖော်ပြပြီးသားဖြစ်စေသည်။
An apostrophe is a figure of speech in which a speaker turns his attention away from his listeners and speaks to someone or something that he knows cannot hear him. He does this to tell his listeners his message or feelings about that person or thing in a very strong way.
