## have mercy on me ##

## he may dip the tip of his finger ##

This indicates the smallness of the amount requested. This can be translated as "he may wet the tip of his finger."

## I am in anguish in this flame ##

"I am in terrible pain in this flame" or "I am suffering terribly in this fire"
