* **have no sin** - "never sin" or "have never sinned" (UDB)
* **deceive** - "trick" or "fool"
* **the truth is not in us** - "we do not believe what he said is true"
* **to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness** - These two phrases mean basically the same thing. John uses them to emphasize that God will surely forgive our sins. * **we make him a liar** - "it is the same as calling him a liar, because he said we have all sinned." The phrase "because he said we have all sinned" is implicit. (See: [[en:ta:vol1:translate:figs_explicit]])
