This refers to the events preceding the Lord Jesus' return.

Here "brothers" means fellow Christians.

# perfectly well

"very well" or "accurately"

# like a thief in the night

# When they say

"When the people say"

# then sudden destruction

"then unexpected destruction"

# like birth pains in a pregnant woman
